How to Write a Bestseller [Social Psychology, Evolutionary Science, Social Media and Culture]

How to Write a Bestseller [Social Psychology, Evolutionary Science, Social Media and Culture]
The Lone Smoke: Looking at science, human psychology, social interaction and culture to provide answers to artistic questions.
‘How do we write a best seller?’ Well…when viewed within the context of human nature, I believe I have came up with the best answer for it.

A common question we ask ourselves as writers is ‘what makes a best seller.’ However it is rare that an answer ever comes from the real place we should be looking for it. So by discussing Social Media, modern day culture, the evolution of human’s language and social complexities as well as the products and successes of recent entertainment and how we use the internet, I have come up with an answer to it. In one large part, it can be quickly summed up but in another it cannot.

If we wish to understand what makes something popular, we have to look at the why. And this is the approach I took in the Lone Smoke to answering this question.

I’m Procrastinating Writer, otherwise known as James Edwards. I do my best to give whatever opinions and knowledge I’ve learned whilst writing and pass them on to you, either to help gain a bit of sanity back in this lonely pursuit OR to help you along if you’ve only just started writing novels.

Why People Share Content On Social Media The Psychology Of Social Sharing Online

Why People Share Content On Social Media The Psychology Of Social Sharing Online
Why People Share Content On Social Media – The Psychology Of Social Sharing Online… http://davidboozer.com

Why people share content on social media. Answering this why seems a little redundant, even crazy to answer seeing how you’ll have to get into a little psychology with it. But, here I will try, and also try and help you understand how to use the ways people share content on social platforms to your advantage.

I share content, not always marketing content, but I share content I like all the time, well, at least more than a few times a day. Like you, I am a social creature, although I believe I could live as a hermit in the mountains, what I believe and what I “do” are two different things.

But, like I said, most of us, including myself, well, we are social, and we are social in our own ways and that is how we can begin to see how to read these different sharing habits to our advantage online. So, let’s go…

Welcome all to the first episode of my media psychology series, where my goal is to provide you with frameworks to understand the way in which the media that we consume often times has been constructed in a way to serve a particular purpose. Now this series is not attempting to frame the content and motives behind the media in terms of its morality, but will really aim to providing tools to understand the mechanics behind it. In terms of the topics that we will be investigating in this series really come under the category of public relations, and what would be considered as propaganda. To understand the current state of media, and the way in which psychology is used to influence viewers, it’s important to look at the history of the formation of the public relations and how psychoanalysis was originally used to be incredibly influential in the political and business sectors throughout the 20th century. Now for those that may be more well versed with current psychological science literature would be well aware that the type of Freudian psychoanalysis’s that will be discussed in this video does not stand up to the current science within the discipline, however to be able to understand the history, is imperative to understanding the modern approach

Is Social Media Hurting Your Mental Health? | Bailey Parnell | TEDxRyersonU

Is Social Media Hurting Your Mental Health? | Bailey Parnell | TEDxRyersonU
Scrolling through our social media feeds feels like a harmless part of our daily lives. But is it actually as harmless at seems? According to social media expert Bailey Parnell, our growing and unchecked obsession with social media has unintended long term consequences on our mental health. As social media continues to become part of the fabric of modern life – the “digital layer” – abstinence is becoming less of an option. Bailey think it’s high time we learned to practice safe social before it’s too late. What are the common triggers? How are they affecting you over time? How can you create a more positive experience online? Bailey covers this and more in “Is Social Media Hurting Your Mental Health?”

Bailey Parnell was recently named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women. She is an award-winning digital marketer, public speaker and businesswoman with a talent for helping people tell better stories. Her work and expertise have been featured on CBC, CTV & in other local Toronto media. Bailey recently founded SkillsCamp, a soft skills training company where they help people develop the essential skills needed for professional success. She also currently works in digital marketing at Ryerson University.

Bailey is a frequent public speaker having spoken to more than 10 thousand people. She primarily speaks about social media, personal branding, and media and mental health. She guest lectured her first MBA class at 21-years-old and has been the youngest speaker as multiple academic conferences. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Communication and Culture with a research focus on social media and mental health, and holds an honours BA from the RTA School of Media at Ryerson.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
